Fish Cakes Gluten Free

Makes: 6 cakes

Golden brown cakes of local fish and potatoes


  • 1 lb saltfish, freshened and flaked (try Off the Hook for NS sustainable seafood)
  • 3 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • ¼ tsp ground pepper
  • 1 egg
  • Butter or oil for frying, as needed
  • Garnish: parsley and a dollop of your favourite chutney


  • Combine all the ingredients and mix well.
  • Form into small patties
  • Heat butter and fry the patties until they are heated though and golden brown on both sides.
  • Serve with garnish of your choice
